As swagrport detailed in last week's “Hip-Hop’s Modern American Dream”, October 2012's ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city’ let the world know that Compton has a story to tell: a story best told through 16 bars, 808’s and a commercially successful album. While Kendrick sheds light on the troubling experience of youth in Compton, it seems that Bompton…I mean Compton has another story to tell.
I don’t think the game knew what to expect when YG dropped ‘My Krazy Life’ on March 18th of this year. And who could have? YG’s career was certainly a question mark after a stint in the hole and little more than the catchy single “Toot it and Boot it” featuring Ty Dolla $ign. But a partnership with Jeezy and a Def Jam cosign later and we have another narrative masterpiece coming straight out of Compton.
